Autoclavable Glass Bioreactors:

An Applikon laboratory system is easy to upgrade if a change in research activities occurs. Applikon offers glass autoclavable bioreactors for cell culture applications and glass autoclavable fermentors for microbial culture applications. The systems are built according to the specific demands of a process using an extensive array of standard components. Because of the modularity and flexibility, the user can always adapt the systems to changed process demands. This results in low initial investment and low running costs. The stirred tank reactor (STR) is the most widely used bioreactor type. Glass autoclavable bioreactors and fermentors are available in 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 15 and 20 liter total volume.

Autoclavable Stainless Steel

The stirred tank reactor (STR) is the most widely used bioreactor type. Applikon offers a unique product, the Bio Clave, as an autoclavable stainless steel bioreactor for cell culture and microbial culture applications.
The Bio Clave bioreactors are versatile, easy to use systems that offer economical alternatives to steam-in-place bioreactors and fermentors The Bio Clave range combines the advantages of both the steam-in place bioreactor (robust design and pressurizable) and the glass autoclavable bioreactors (flexibility and modularity). The 316L stainless steel vessels are constructed according to the latest standard on hygienic processing and cGMP. The interior finish of the vessel is electropolished to Ra=0.4µm, while the exterior is mirror polished. The high-grade surface finish secures a better cleanability. The systems are built according to the specific demands of a process using an extensive array of standard components. Because of the modularity and flexibility, the user can always adapt the systems to changed process demands. This results in low initial investment and low running costs.
The Bio Clave bioreactor and fermentor are available in 20, 70 and 110 liter total volume. All systems are equipped with a top driven stirrer who can be either a magnetically coupled or a lipsealed stirrer system.

BioBench, Steam-In-Place Bioreactor Systems

The Applikon Bio Bench bioreactor range consists of four different Sterilizable-In-Place bioreactor systems with a total volume of 7 liter, 15 liter, 20 liter and 30 liter. Applications are in basic research and small scale production for both mammalian cells and micro-organisms. The Bio Bench range is a direct scale-up from the lab scale autoclavable bioreactors (the world standard in laboratory research). This eases scale-up and minimizes risks in process transfer to next volume level.  The small footprint guarantees that the minimal amount of bench space is occupied by the system. All systems are fully documented for cGMP usage and are supplied with an extensive documentation package to support validation.

Pilot Systems,  Steam-In-Place Bioreactor Systems

The Applikon Pilot system bioreactor range is divided in a microbial range and in a cell culture range of volumes. The microbial Sterilizable-In-Place bioreactor systems come in a total volume of 20 liter, 40 liter, 70 liter and 140 liter. The cell culture Sterilizable-In-Place bioreactor systems come in a total volume of 30 liter, 60 liter and 130 liter. The main difference between these two lines is the aspect ratio of the bioreactors. The microbial system have an aspect ratio of 3.0 at total volume while the cell culture systems have an aspect ratio of 1.5 at total volume. Applications are pilot plant and small scale production for both mammalian cells and micro-organisms. The pilot range is the first step in the scale-up to production level and these systems have the same functionality as the full production scale. This minimizes risks in process transfer to the final production volume.  The small footprint guarantees that the minimal amount of floor space is occupied by the system. All systems are fully documented for cGMP usage and are supplied with an extensive documentation package to support validation.
