On 17 August 2026, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sebastian Hartmann, Member of the German Bundestag for the Rhein-Sieg district and Parliamentary State Secretary, together with René Wirtz, City Parliamentary Group Leader and Member of the Troisdorf Council, and a member of Mr Hartmann’s team to the I&L Biosystems Campus in Troisdorf.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity to introduce I&L Biosystems, our technologies and our European activities – but, above all, to have an open discussion about the opportunities and challenges facing internationally active medium-sized companies in Germany today.
I&L Biosystems: Science, Technology and Service
Our Troisdorf Campus serves as the scientific and commercial heart of I&L Biosystems. Since 2024, key functions, including Sales, Application, Customer Service, Data Management, and Quality Management, have been based here.
Together with our site in Waalwijk, the Netherlands, which serves as our logistics, technical and warehouse hub, and our local sales and service teams across European markets, Troisdorf is an important part of our European organisation.
During a visit to our Application Area, our colleague Annette Klees demonstrated how I&L Biosystems technologies are used in modern scientific and biotechnological workflows. Using systems including Cedex Bio HT and Cedex Bio from Roche as well as RASTRUM from Inventia, we were able to make the connection between innovative technologies and their practical application in research and biotechnology tangible.
Why Troisdorf?
An important part of the discussion focused on our move in 2024 from Könisgwinter to Troisdorf and the Rhein-Sieg region as a business location.
Its central position in Europe, international accessibility and proximity to universities, scientific institutions, customers and qualified professionals provide important advantages for an internationally operating company such as I&L Biosystems.
At the same time, companies and their employees experience the challenges of the location every day. Roads, bridges and public transport directly affect commuting times, accessibility and ultimately the attractiveness of the region as a place to work and invest.
Innovation and Competitiveness
We also discussed the changing world of work and the importance of finding the right balance between flexible working models and personal collaboration. Our experience shows that direct exchange remains highly valuable, particularly where scientific applications, technical expertise, sales and service come together.
At the same time, geopolitical developments, changing global supply chains and increasing international competition are creating a continuously changing environment for internationally active companies.
For Germany and Europe to remain competitive, attractive conditions for innovation and investment, qualified professionals, reliable infrastructure and practical regulation are essential.
Continuing the dialogue
The visit demonstrated how valuable direct dialogue between business and policymakers can be. Sharing practical experiences creates a better understanding of how infrastructure, regulation, innovation, international competitiveness and regional development are interconnected.
