Expanding access to single-use disk stack centrifugation for cell harvesting
I&L Biosystems has entered into a partnership with GEA to distribute the GEA kytero® 10 in the Benelux region. Through this collaboration, I&L Biosystems will support the sale, installation, and maintenance of GEA’s tabletop single-use disk-stack centrifuge for cell harvesting in R&D and small-scale production environments.
GEA brings more than 130 years of experience in process equipment for the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, and nutraceutical industries. Its portfolio covers technologies for batch and continuous fermentation and separation, with a strong focus on gentle treatment of fragile cell cultures and high CIP and SIP standards. With thousands of installations worldwide, GEA supports both small and large-scale operations across a wide range of applications, including antibodies, vaccines, enzymes, DNA/RNA, insulin, starter cultures, and alternative proteins.
GEA kytero® 10: disk stack separation on a laboratory scale
The kytero® 10 is a compact, benchtop, single-use disk-stack centrifuge for efficient, gentle cell harvesting from small bioreactors (1–10 L). It supports fed-batch harvesting and high-yield perfusion operations and is suitable for mammalian cell cultures, bacterial fermentations, and yeast processes. The system combines high product recovery with maintained cell viability, while requiring minimal space and utilities.
Key characteristics of the kytero® 10 include:
- Designed for 1–10 L bioreactors in R&D and small-scale production
- Single-use, fully enclosed concept with 100% biocontainment
- Contact-free breezeDrive® system for contamination-safe operation
- No CIP or SIP required, enabling fast turnaround between runs
- Compact table-top design suitable for laboratories and cleanrooms
- Scalable to larger stainless-steel or single-use disk stack centrifuges using the same separation technology
By using industry-standard disk stack separation principles, processes developed on the kytero® 10 can be tested and subsequently transferred to larger production systems, supporting a smooth transition from research to manufacturing.
Supply and support by I&L Biosystems
As part of this partnership, I&L Biosystems will provide local distribution, technical service, and application support for the kytero® 10 in the Benelux. The system aligns with I&L Biosystems’ focus on reliable, scalable solutions for bioprocess technology, supporting customers across the biopharma, biotechnology, and emerging food and alternative protein sectors.
