Expanding access to advanced 3D cell culture technologies
I&L Biosystems has entered into a new partnership with Inventia Life Science, a company focused on developing powerful tools for advanced medical discovery. Through this collaboration, I&L Biosystems will supply Inventia Life Science’s RASTRUM™ platforms in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Thereby supporting researchers in drug discovery, biomedical research, and advanced 3D cell biology.
Inventia Life Science develops solutions that enable the creation of complex cell models and human tissue that closely reflect real human physiology. Their technologies are designed to help forward-thinking research teams build more predictive and translatable in vitro models, directly within their own laboratories.
Introducing Inventia Life Science and the RASTRUM platform
Inventia Life Science’s RASTRUM technology is used to create complex 3D cell models that reproducibly capture key structure and functional features of human tissue across a wide range of disease states. By providing a physiologically relevant microenvironment, RASTRUM enables researchers to study biological processes under conditions that more closely resemble those found in vivo.
The RASTRUM platform is designed to support advanced 3D cell culture applications by combining predefined, xeno-free matrices with proprietary drop-on-demand bioprinting technology. This approach allows researchers to generate robust and reproducible 3D cell models while minimising hands-on steps and variability.
Key features of RASTRUM include:
- Intuitive, workflow-driven operation with no coding required
- Gentle, low-pressure dispensing suitable for sensitive cell types such as stem cells and immune cells
- Drop-on-demand bioprinting for precise and reproducible model formation
- Compatibility with 24-, 96- and 384-well plates
- An inert base layer that prevents cell attachment to plastic surfaces, preserving true 3D characteristics
- Seamless integration with existing downstream analysis workflows
The cloud-based guided experimental design supports researchers through a structured five-step workflow, from matrix and architecture selection to model growth and analysis, helping standardise 3D culture development from early research through to more advanced applications.
RASTRUM™ Allegro: high-throughput 3D cell models in minutes
For laboratories requiring higher throughput and scalability, RASTRUM Allegro extends the same core technology into a platform optimised for drug discovery and translational research. RASTRUM Allegro enables rapid production of large numbers of consistent 3D cell models, supporting screening campaigns and studies where reproducibility is critical.
RASTRUM Allegro enables:
- Production of a full 96-well plate in 6 minutes and a 384-well plate in 9 minutes
- Generation of over 35 plates per working day
- Post-print intra- and inter-plate coefficients of variation below 10%, even with sensitive cells
- Creation of up to 3.5× more 3D cell models from limited or precious samples
By reducing dead volume and waste, RASTRUM Allegro enables researchers to use scarce materials more efficiently, including patient-derived biopsies. The platform supports the recreation of complex tumour and tissue microenvironments, allowing detailed investigation of interactions between cancer, stromal, and vascular cell types.
Supply and support by I&L Biosystems
Through this partnership, I&L Biosystems strengthens its portfolio in advanced cell culture, drug discovery and biomedical research technologies. In addition to instrument supply, our teams provide local technical service and application support to ensure the successful implementation and long-term performance of the RASTRUM platforms.
