The PhO₂x Box from Baker Ruskinn has been developed for cell culture experiments in an atmosphere with a controlled, low proportion of oxygen. It consists of a controller with gas mixing module technology, to which an acrylic box is connected and in which the samples are stored. It is sealed against the ambient atmosphere as long as the front door is closed. In its interior, both the O₂ and CO₂ gas concentration are measured and set by the controller to the % values programmed on the display. The measurement and control technology corresponds to the highest, proven level of Baker Ruskinn.

The acrylic box can be placed in an incubator or a hypoxia workbench or, if room temperature is sufficient, simply on the laboratory bench. The controller always remains outside. In this atmosphere, the cells ideally experience an oxygen environment that is similar to the body tissue from which they originate. These values are different for different cells or cell lines and can be found in the literature. In addition, hypoxic or hyperoxic values can be set. If the box is installed in a hypoxia workbench, a further, independent atmosphere is available for more complex experiments.
